Clinical Services

Dr. Vogan’s therapeutic philosophy is based on an existential-humanistic framework. This therapy is process-oriented rather than solutions-focused, and concentrates on the subjective experience of the person. It asks deep questions about the lived experience of the human being and the nature of anxiety, grief and isolation. It aims to increase self-awareness, thereby creating space for the individual to live more authentically. Although the client is responsible for making changes, the therapist is a facilitator who supports the internal growth present in all human beings and prompts it to begin working. Consequently, the patient and therapist are co-participants in a deeply rewarding, but sometimes painful process.

Existential-humanistic psychotherapists are concerned about the human experience; one’s authenticity in relation to the givens of life; a belief in the worth of individuals and dedication to the development of human potential; and an understanding of life as a process, and as such, change is inevitable.
