Dr. Vogan

Pinnacle Psychology Associates founder, Rex R. Vogan II, Psy.D., received his undergraduate degree in exercise science with a minor in psychology from The George Washington University, located in Washington, DC; his master’s degree in sport psychology from Ithaca College, located in Ithaca, NY; and his doctoral degree in clinical psychology with a specialization in sport psychology, from Argosy University, located in Phoenix, AZ. In addition, Dr. Vogan is recognized as an in-depth psychotherapist through the International Institute of Humanistic Studies. He is also affiliated with several organizations including the American Psychological Association, the Virginia Psychological Association and The Association for Applied Sport Psychology.

Dr. Vogan completed his pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral residency at New Lifestyles, a residential treatment facility located in Winchester, VA. During his two years at New Lifestyles, he conducted intensive individual, group, and family therapy with adolescents, young adults, and families who suffered with severe pathology, personality disorders and maladaptive relationship patterns. The goals of these interventions were to assist clients in self and interpersonal understanding, the development of appropriate emerging adult identities, and functional family/interpersonal relationships. In addition to his therapeutic duties, as Chief Resident, Dr. Vogan managed the assessment and evaluation of intern training, created and monitored clinical schedules, consulted with community contacts, and provided relevant clinical information to the Clinical Director, program team and psychiatric consultant. Furthermore, Dr. Vogan assisted the Clinical Director with staff development and training, special topic groups and family workshops.

Dr. Vogan also has specialty training in sport psychology as it relates to recovery from sport injury and performance enhancement. He has extensive experience researching and working with athletes who have suffered season-ending injuries and understands the tremendous impact it has on their entire life. Due to his unique training in clinical and sport psychology, Dr. Vogan is equipped to support the injured athlete with most issues that surface as a result of a major life changing event. In addition, he has worked with division II and division III athletes, teams, and coaches to foster mental toughness, improve team dynamics, establish leadership skills, decrease pre-competitive anxiety and increase motivation. Furthermore, he has educated athletes and coaches on conflict resolution styles, goal setting programs and appropriate communication skills.
